Meet Skittles
ON HOLD

Skittles is a 5 year old Rainbow Lorikeet/Green Naped Lorikeet hybrid. He's beautiful and he knows it.

This is one happy boy. He does not like to be petted on his back, but he's always up scratch under the chin. Skittles will step up onto a finger and is happy to hang out on your shoulder. If you bob your head up and down or move it from side to side he gets excited. He does well with other birds, plays with toys, and says Jasmine and Azucar!

Lorikeets have a very special diet, so please do your research. Lorikeets do not eat seed. In the wild they eat pollen and nectar from flowers, fresh fruit and vegetables, and this makes them very messy eaters. As pets they are fed a commercial nectar product that is served dry or mixed with water, fresh and dried fruit, and fresh veggies. There are pellets formulated for Lorikeets that can be a small part of their diet, but seed and animal protein like scrambled eggs and meat is toxic to them.
Adoptions require multiple visits over the course of at least 2 weeks before the bird can go home with you. We look for the interaction between the bird and the prospective owner. It's important that the bird can form a bond with you and if the bird makes it clear that it does not like you, then the adoption will not be possible. Tropic Zone is a very different environment from the home environment the bird was used to. Birds available for adoption may have behavioral quirks such as aggression, biting, screaming, or the use of foul language, and many time these behaviors do not appear until after the bird leaves the store and returns to a quieter home environment. We make every effort to notify you of behaviors we know about, but Tropic Zone takes no responsibility for behaviors that appear after the bird leaves the store.
